The year eight student studying agriculture in Laurieton recently placed well in a recent school cattle show held on Friday, October 15.
The 14-year-old has found a new love of working with livestock and hopes to gain employment on a cattle station or dairy farm when he graduates school.
"I'd just started in agriculture this year and I've really enjoyed working with animals and cattle. It's been great going up there will my mates, getting up close to the livestock and hanging out," he said.
"It's busy bit it's also pretty fun and I like a challenge. It's nice seeing all the cattle nice and clean during the shows.
"Friday was my first cattle show and it was really enjoyable. I was a bit nervous at first but I started getting comfortable."
Ty said local kids are extremely lucky to have agriculture studies at their school.
"As students it's kind of like seeing the circle of life, I know we can't really get too attached to the animals," he said.
"Kids in other schools don't get that experience of being around animals and I think that would be pretty boring.
"The best part of school is just chilling with them and patting them."
