Port Macquarie-Hastings Council has the draft master plan on public exhibition.
The vibrancy and growth of the Laurieton CBD has faced many challenges over the past several years. Satellite commercial areas, online buying, drought, bushfires and more recently COVID-19 have all had dramatic and ongoing impacts on the Laurieton town centre.
Following consultation with the broader community in December 2020, and in partnership with the Camden Haven Chamber of Commerce, feedback has been gathered and the draft master plan is now ready for review.
Council engaged consultants, Hatch Roberts Day to develop the draft master plan.
The objective is to create a vibrant town centre in Laurieton that assists in creating an active community, commercial opportunities and a tourism hub. This will be achieved by attracting business, tourism, employment and entertainment activities, in a broader community that is active, vibrant and has a bustling community heart, creating a sustainable future for the community.
This special project looks at expanding the CBD and connection to the river while creating an activated and vibrant community heart that attracts thriving business.
The master plan for Laurieton town centre will also ensure that both the Aboriginal and European history is showcased and strengthened.
Residents can have a say in an online workshop on Thursday 2 December from 5pm-6.30pm via Zoom.
Council will also host pop-up information stands on Tuesday 14 December, 10am-12pm, Coles Laurieton; and Sunday 16 January, 9am-11am, at the Laurieton Riverwalk Markets.
