Nineteen people attended the first trial of the Henry Kendall Reserve Parkrun in Laurieton on January 23.

Parkruns are usually held each week with a free five km run or walk timed event. Similar timed and social fitness events are held at Port Macquarie Parkrun and Wauchope Parkrun each Saturday.

The new parkrun will its next trial on January 30 before officially starting on February 5 and 12,

Assistant run director Bell Davis said a time of 19 minutes and 58 seconds was set on January 23 as the fastest unofficial record.

"It was great and it was a real success. We had heaps of volunteers, it was really fun and safe," Mrs Bell said.

"We had 19 people who ran or walked the course. We also had about six or seven volunteers.

"We have made a few changes to the start and finish to take into account people timing themselves on their watches. We have also made some changes to our COVID guidelines to give us some more space at the start.

"Over the weekend we had a pram pushed along the course, which we were initially worried about. That seemed to go okay and accessibility wise there was a dog who ran it as well, which was good."
