With the help of at least five aircraft, the Rural Fire Service (RFS) said this morning the fire had been contained.
Crews will continue to patrol the fire today to ensure there are no hot spots or escapes.
The RFS said a result of the ongoing fire activity in the area, all fire permits issued for the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council area have been suspended until further notice.
NSW RFS fire investigators continue to work closely with NSW Police in investigating the cause of all recent fires.
It is believed the Dunbogan fire had been lit at three separate points.
Police and fire investigators will wait until the fire is completely extinguished before they examine the scene.
