SUNDAY March 7 is Clean Up Australia Day. Volunteers are needed for this worthwhile cause which not only keeps our surrounds clean but helps prevent rubbish pollution of our magnificent waterways. Extra volunteers are sorely needed for the Dunbogan and Laurieton areas. The clean ups are generally finished by 10-11.00 am. Volunteers need to bring a hat, sunscreen, drinking water, morning tea and gloves if possible.

LAURIETON AND DUNBOGAN
All volunteers for this area should meet near the Laurieton Sea Rescue Base at the end of Tunis St at 8.30 am. Volunteers who are prepared to wear old clothes and who have gumboots are especially needed to clean up the mangrove area along the foreshore between Tunis St and Ocean Drive. This is where much of the local rubbish accumulates. For further information please contact Sue Baker on 6559 7134 no later than Friday 5th March.
BONNY HILLS AND NORTH HAVEN
Site coordinator on the day will be Bill Metcalfe, phone 6584 8281.
Site 1: Bonny Hills Skateboard park. Site manager Martin Dures 6585 4040; Mob. 0427882022. It is anticipated that volunteers at this site will fan out to the Rainbow Beach, Spooneys Bay and the area surrounding the tennis courts. This is the first year that the skateboarders have participated in the clean up at Bonny Hills and thanks are due to Martin Dures and the skateboard park committee for volunteering their time and mobilising the young people for this effort. It is hoped that a good crowd will turn up at this site to support Martin and crew.
Site 2: Corner Bonny View and Ocean Drive. Site manager Alison Kennedy. This is always a busy site and volunteers will clean both sides of Ocean Drive both north and south of the site. If there are sufficient volunteers, Houston Mitchell Dr. may also be targeted.
Site 3. 4 WD track mid way between Bonny Hills and North Haven. Site manager Mary Spence. Volunteers here will venture onto Grants Beach as well as clean up both sides of the road.
LAKE CATHIE
This is the 20th year of Clean up Australia Day activities and Denise Wagner, local organiser, said “Just imagine the tons of rubbish we would have laying around in the village without residents’ efforts on this day for so many years”.
Willing workers will be made most welcome to undertake the annual cleaning job.
Meeting time is between 8.00AM and 10AM at the Foreshore Reserve Picnic Shelter where clean up areas will be allocated and necessary bags etc. supplied.
Volunteers are asked to wear sturdy shoes, a hat and sunblock. Please bring your own gloves if available. People of any age can join in the cleaning.
For more information call Denise on 6586 3047.
If anyone has suggestions on areas needing a clean up please let Denise know as soon as possible.
