At the Port Macquarie region’s HSC examination centre, Camden Haven High School students presented some outstanding items demonstrating high technical skill and originality. The examiners seemed to agree as two of Camden Haven High school students were invited to perform amongst elite dancers from across the state in the annual performance of Callback. These performances demonstrate students who have excelled in their HSC practical examinations and are invited to perform as these dance works are of a high Band 6 standard. Kye Maurer, an accelerated HSC dance student, was accepted into Callback with his core performance item “Salut”. The second student who was nominated and accepted into Callback was Maree Cronin who is enrolled in Camden Haven High School’s Distance Education dance program with her major study performance. Kye and Maree should be commended for their hard work, determination and discipline demonstrated in HSC dance. It seems only fitting that they are rewarded for their efforts through their participation in this coveted event. Both of these students were under the guidance of dance teacher, Ms Julia Tutalo who has been at the school since the beginning of Term 2 and is in her first year of teaching secondary dance studies. A group of students from Camden Haven will be attending Callback, which is held at the Newtown High School of the Performing Arts in February 2008 to assist them in their own preparations for next year’s HSC.
