The competition consisted of the best 60 children in NSW from 12 NSW regions. Blake initially went through his pool (group) undefeated until he reached the play-offs. There he was challenged by the number one State Player.
Blake has now been selected to represent NSW at the upcoming School Sport Australian Championships, also known as the Bruce Cup, to be held in Bendigo Victoria in October. Blake has been ranked third out of the seven and is only the second North Coast boy to be selected in the State Team.
Eleven year old Blake has been passionate about tennis since the age of six. Remarkably he started playing tennis as a left hander. After 18 months his then coach suggested he swap hands as he had more strength in his right hand. The transition was tricky as initially Blake would serve with his left hand and play with his right.
Eventually the passion and the practice has paid off. Proud parents Gary and Linda are looking forward to supporting Blake in the upcoming Championship and various fund-raising activities will be taking place prior to October.
Blake says he’s keen to “knock off” Queensland who have won the championship for the last three years.
