North Haven BC Snooker
Our first night was a very successful night with a lot of quality games being played. (And I think a few people checking out the talent to see if there were any budding Eddie Charltons in the area). At this stage we are still going through the handicapping process and I think there will be a few surprises in the next few weeks. Okay, the winners in the Majors was Kevin Grundy and the runner-up was Guenther Otto. The Minors winner was Tony Hart with the runner-up being Leila Stavely, who, by the way is giving free lessons on trick shots before tonights game. A special get well to our Preso Rod Hart who could not make it being hospitalized with an ear infection. See you this week mate. Thanks to our members of the committee that turned up for their help on the night and also Tony and Guenther for their input. Don't forget every Wednesday night 6.30pm come along for the fun.
The Jigger.
LUSC Lawn Bowls
There was a very good attendance on Thursday last 86 players, which included three visitors Rod Kilpatrick from the Gold Coast, Bruce Kilpatrick from Blacktown Diggers and William Blair from North Haven. Welcome fellows, I hope you enjoyed the game and the company and come back again soon. Birthdays Jim Turner 65 and Percy Fry 41, I think some of these blokes have two or three birthdays a year it seems like it was only three months ago these two had a birthday. The presents must be good or I have been writing this trash too long. On the sick list we have Les Frost, Frank Boyer, John Sinclair, Ron Hardie John Small and Fred Charlwood, we wish them all a very speedy recovery. It is with sincere regret, I have to report the death of one of our valued members in Don McCoobe our deepest sympathy to all his relatives and friends. There were two games of singles played on Thursday last. The results were Alan Hawkes def John Brown and Peter Loveday def Arther Stewart. A big thanks to the markers Jerry Janik and Ray Allen. there will be no championships played on Thursday July 28. The social bowls winners were two games of Pairs on Rink 1 A Russell and Jack Clarke and on Rink 21 G Bennett again and Les Smith, runners-up L Carberry, Jim Smith and Ron Morris on Rink 20 and on Rink 10 M Taylor, Les Dykes and Eddie Earle. Congratulations to all the winners on the day. Just keep up the good work the lucky number winners were $20, John Slager $10, John Madelay and $5 to Davey Wightman. Don't forget bowlers our visitation to Taree West on Sunday July 31, list is up at the club, still a few vacancies. Bus leaves club at 10am, $20 per head covers lunch, game of bowls and nibble afterwards, it is always a very good day at Taree so pop in and put your names down. We have a visitation to us at Lake Cathie on September 11, but more about that later on.

LUSC Chess Club
Last Wednesday was back to some serious chess again after school holidays. It was nice to have Leslie and Richard from Port for some serious games of chess. Shane had even result playing Endel. Alex scored a few wins as usual. Fred has a bad flu and missed all the excitement. Hope he will be back in action next Wednesday. Excitement is building up for Lower Mid North Coast High Schools 'Day of Chess' on August 12. Our local Camden Haven High Studens are working hard to retain the hard won Perpetual Trophy. Wish them luck. All chessplayers are invited to our meetings each Wednesday from 5.30pm, except School Holidays.

LUSC Snooker
I'm sure all members of this club wish the North Haven "Snooker Club" every success and hopefully before too long the two committees will talk about some serious rivalry. "Two Balls" hopes "the Jigger" is not backwards in coming forward "Two Balls" is a champion when it comes to throwing rocks even if he has to throw the first one (let's start with house bricks). What The." Results last Tuesday 16 players made a perfect doubles draw but wait a minute, where's the two Harts. Don't tell me "Rollie" is planning to "Roll em" on their opening night (probably resting), oh well you can always come over here and unwind Tuesday and Thursdays 6.30 start. Big crowds but a happy lot. Major Final: If all members conducted themselves like Ray McLaughlin then the world would be a better place. Yes he was a champion horseman who ran the "Red Hots" around Harold Park in the 1950s and before too long he might be giving us the bell lap before he cracks the whip which is exactly what he did in this final. "The Beaver" hung on as "Ray the Horseman" came out of the pack and "roared" down the outside. "Lady Thea" and Mr Snooker himself "Tibor China plate tooth" got caught on the rails. Minor Final: The Farmer and Mick O'Hara showed David O'Hara and "Ron the Angel" how to dig potatoes you dig deep then keep your eyes open that way Ron Howell is always on the back foot. Thursday night Capt Glen doesn't believe in putting square pegs in round holes. If some members believe handicaps are true then maybe we should try straight double draws instead of high and low pairings. Major Final Jimbo left no doubts as to his intentions with Beechers Meats. Gun player Steve Ingrey showed great skills on the last few balls including a black ball off the cushion. Minor final "The Poet" never got in front, Lady Thea is another player with a fry pan from the heart of snookerland.
