Surf lifesaving clubs of Camden Haven, Wauchope/Bonny Hills, Tacking Point and Port Macquarie each received a cheque for $7,000. The representatives from the surf clubs expressed their sincere appreciation and delight upon receiving their funds which will assist in the purchase of essential equipment for their patrols. Since it’s inception in 2006 the Blacktie and Barefoot Ball has raised $120,000 for the Hastings community. Committee spokesman said how great it was this year to have a dry night after last years near wash out. The reputation of the ball is gaining momentum as not only a valuable fund raiser for the local community, but also a premier social event with the 280 available tickets selling out in November. Major sponsor De Bortoli Wines were represented this year by members of the De Bortoli family, who were impressed by the quality of the night and attention to detail.
The generosity and support of local business is quite overwhelming said the committee, with donations ranging from vouchers to goods and/or services up to $1000. Even with recent difficult economic times the general community is more than willing to help out where they can.
The spokesman also commented on the support and encouragement they receive from the Bonny Hills and surrounding communities, residents and visitors alike. If you are associated with a community organisation that could use a helping hand, visit the website. Applications for recipients will be accepted September/October 2010. www.blacktieandbarefoot.com or email: blacktieandbarefootball@gmail.com
The ball committee was recognised by the council with Community Service Awards last November by Council Administrator, Gary Payne, who acknowledged the invaluable contribution of volunteers in the community.
