This fantastic concert was held in the Camden Haven High School’s Multi Purpose Centre on Tuesday night May 26. Schools involved in this Community of Schools’ venture included Camden Haven HS, Laurieton PS, Kendall PS, Herons Creek PS, Johns River PS, Hannam Vale PS, Moorland PS and North Haven PS.
A great variety of items showcased the talents of students and dedication of teachers in our public schools. Items included singing, dance, drama and instrumental items. It was a treat to see the children from the smaller schools in the Camden Haven area mixing with those from the larger schools.
The massed choir of over 150 and massed bands of over 85 children, conducted by Lyndal Bruggemann and Jock Garven respectively, gave students the opportunity to be part of large ensembles. This proved very popular with students and added to the success of the many individual school items showcased during the concert.
During the week prior to Education Week, 95 students and a number of talented teachers took part in the Camden Haven Community of Schools annual band camp held at the Bonny Hills Conference Centre. There were students representing Herons Creek, Kendall, Laurieton and North Haven Public Schools as well as students in a musical and leadership capacity from Camden Haven High School. This intensive camp allowed the students to be taught many new skills and to be exposed to some great new music. During the camp the children also took part in a huge games night, a talent quest and heard a performance from the Camden Haven Concert Band.
CHAFFS and the Band Camp are organised and produced by students and teachers with the ongoing support of parents and the wider community. The festival’s Creative Arts focus highlights one aspect of the many quality educational opportunities available in our great public schools.
