An elderly local couple were injured after the car they were driving veered onto the wrong side of the road and crashed into a tree.

The 82-year-old Lakewood man and his 92-year-old wife were driving west along Ocean Drive near Christmas Cove when the accident happened at 9.35am Friday.
The driver of an oncoming car told police he saw the car cross onto the wrong side of the road and mount the gutter. The white Hyundai Getz sedan then continued to travel west out of control over the grass edge of the road before smashing into a small tree.
The impact snapped the tree in half and the car crashed over the water meter outside a residential address on Ocean Drive before coming to rest against the fence.
Ambulance and police officers attended the scene of the accident before the occupants of the car were conveyed to Port Macquarie Hospital by ambulance.
The woman, the passenger in the vehicle, was in a serious condition on Friday afternoon, the driver’s condition was stable. On Monday both were reported to be in a stable condition. Police investigations are continuing into the crash.
