LUSC LADIES
SOCIAL BOWLS
Hello everyone we had a fine morning on Wednesday - rather windy but that just added to the fun. We had some bright ladies who thought that they were on Saturday afternoon television and carried paddles to show how many points they won by at each end. As you can imagine it raised lots of laughter. The new green is opening Friday afternoon so maybe we will play on that next week. Hope you all have your names down for our Mothers Day lunch next Wednesday May 11. Just to remind you we will be playing bowls as usual weather permitting & lunch will be at 12 o clock. Best wishes to our ladies who are not feeling well hope to see you back soon. D&J
L.U.S.C. LAWN BOWLS
Last Thursday afternoon 85 bowlers fronted up for a game at Lake Cathie including one visitor Peter Lang from Kew. We hope you enjoyed our company Peter and you are welcome back any time. It was great to see Russ Archer front up to see us, he reckons he will be back bowling within a matter of weeks. We wish all our members who are unable to bowl with us due to illness, the very best and we hope to see you all back at bowls with us in the near future. The winning rink club voucher winners were Jim Fairbrother, Keith McCosker, Allan (AcDc) Beattie, Harry Madeley, Jan Blank, John Bate, Les (Rodney) Tobin, Kevin Bogg, and Claude Honeyman.
The runners-up rink voucher winners were Bryan (rowdy) Smith, John Manning, Doug (smiley) Porter, Lisle Crossing, Pat Guthrie, Clarence Lane, Ron Ferguson, Harold Baldry and Ray Allan. The cash winners drawn from the weekly nomination sheet were Smiley Doug Porter winning $20.00 with both Bob (batman) Haynes and Sir Reginald Spencer winning $10.00 each. The lucky winners of the delicious family pie vouchers from the Colonial Bakery were Arthur Stewart and Harold Baldry. The three $25.00 Xmas club raffle winners for this week were Les Tobin, Lisle Crossing and Bob Haynes. It might be noted that no members of the committee were amongst the winners this week (that will have to change) Our next mixed bowls Sunday Sausage Sizzle will be held at the Kew Bowling Club on the 22nd May, at 9am for a 9.30am start. Our Annual Mixed Gala Fun Bowls day will be held at the Kew Bowling Club on Sunday 5th June commencing at 9am for a 9.30am start. The dress will be your LUSC bowling club shirt or neat and tidy casual. The cost of the day will be $10.00 per head which will cover your lunch, bowls and heaps of other prizes. As usual on the Gala Day we will be collecting annual membership fees. Unfortunately there will be no visitors at the Gala Day as attendance will be restricted to members of the LUSC Lawn Bowling Club only. The nomination sheet for the Gala day is now displayed on the notice board at the club. If you have any inquiries in relation to the Gala Day please contact the Bowls Organiser on 65595117.
Whilst on the subject of your Annual Membership Fees, we will start collecting them at Thursday Bowls as from this week. I heard on the grapevine that Bob Constable caught the largest bream ever last week, he reckons it was that big the water level in the lake dropped by six inches when he pulled it into the boat.
That is all.

Mother’s day and the drive to Kempsey meant that numbers were very small last Sunday. 7 players played an ambrose – one team of 3 and one team of 4. The rules for Ambrose are that 3 person teams have their totaled handicaps get divided by 6 and teams of 4 have their handicap divided by 8. Is all of the above important? If you haven’t got a mathematician in charge, the answer is yes!
Trevor Blackall, Tom Scrine and David Middlebrook proved very consistent and had 10 pars and 8 bogeys, for a gross score of 80. They were declared the winners with a nett 65 and 1/6th. They defeated Marie Carroll, Tony Carroll, Jenny Jackson and the Phantom 2 Wings who finished with a nett 65 and 1/8th.
It was only after a Maths teacher looked at the results on the way home that it was revealed that the wrong team (out of two) was declared the winners. 1/8th is lower than 1/6th. Where is the calculator when you need it?
Trevor Blackall was the star of the day winning both the Mens Longest Drive and the NTP(2nd shot). Marie Carroll won the LLD. Trevor’s team really had a brain fade on the very short Par 3 3rd hole. Trevor tee’d up first and promptly tried to make the hole even shorter by aiming for the 7th green. What was worse was that his partner, Tom Scrine, stood there and watched him do it. What the! Tom then played his tee shot and laid up just short of the green half way in a mound of long grass. David Middlebrook then played his shot and despite knowing all of what had transpired before his turn, sliced his ball right of the 3rd green, right of Trevor’s ball, right of the 7th green, and right of the rough to the right of the 7th green.
It was great to see the Phantom with 2 Wings back swinging a golf club. He went well after a long layoff. He did however, struggle with his fitness and he was often seen lagging well behind his playing partners.
Captain Tony presented the ladies with a flower for attending on Mothers Day. Discussion back at the Clubhouse centred around who should make the decisions about which ball to use in an ambrose. Some say the lowest handicapper. Some say a friendly discussion would be best. Some players refuse to make any decision and then make comment afterwards. In the end, I guess, the best decision is the one where the players play good shots from the chosen ball. Hhhmm – team work is not as easy as it sounds. There was talk of mutiny in the winning side, but the strong leadership of the captain got his team through.
The day only got more interesting from there. The group ordered hamburgers for lunch. After 20 minutes wait, they were told – no meat patties. How about salt and pepper calimari and chicken burgers? 15 minutes later we were told yes, but it would take a while. So, at 2.15 the group sat down for Subway at Port Macquarie.
More truths of Golf: 1. Hazards attract; Fairways repel. 2. It’s easier to get up at 6am to play golf than to get up at 10am to mow the lawn. 3. Golf is the perfect thing to do on a Sunday, because you always end needing to pray a lot. 4. If your opponent has trouble remembering if he shot a 6 or 7, he probably shot an 8 (or worse).
We play again this Sunday (15th) at Camden Haven (8am start) for an American Foursomes. The following event is at Wauchope on the 29th May and this will be 2 person Ambrose.

Camden Haven Netball
Thank you to all the girls who stayed for the march past last Saturday, our club was well represented.
This Saturday our club is on canteen duty, please ensure you have parents to help out in canteen when your team is rostered on.
The next club meeting is on 25th May 6.30pm at Laurieton United Services Club. All coaches are asked to attend, if you can't please have someone there to represent your team. We have some important things to discuss. Parents are most welcome to attend.
Match reports from 29th April
Nettas - Kendall Services and Citizens Club: Thankfully the rain stayed away so we could have a great game. Tess, Bridie, Lara and Remi all shot goals and Elka and Aislinn played excellent attacking games. Jessica and Annie were wonderful in defence. Fantastic game.
Netta- Camden Haven Riverview: Great game back after a big break. The girls quickly remembered their skills and put them to work on a very slippery surface. Some great intercepts from Lukka, Ella, Holly and Jordan. Charlie and Taylor did their best to get around some very tall opposition in the centre court. Keira, Ebony and Callie were finding space really well on court. Well done girls!
Match reports from 6th May
10yrs Camden Haven Saacks Orthodontics: In each game Camden Haven Saacks Orthodontics improve with confidence and it is great to watch as the dynamics of our team strengthen and grow. Unfortunately, Saints Nemo were too strong for us on the day but you all played well and with a lot of enthusiasm.
13yrs LUSC Snr: Great win girls, very proud! You are all going great and getting into sync with each other. Circle work was fantastic and so was the mid court. Defence did really well together and that led to a much deserved win, keep up the good work girls!
13yrs Wiggly Tail Butchery: Big effort again by all girls, love the passing around the circle. I know we haven’t had many training sessions but hopefully the rain will stay away so we can learn new skills & practise old ones.
DIV 4 Riverview Snr: All girls played a great game. Attacks worked really well together and so did the mid court girls. Defence was great as well. It was fantastic to have all the team there this week and together you play fantastic, keep it up girls.

JUNIOR LEAGUE
Under 7’s
The U/7’s travelled to Lake Cathie this week, with one intention, to maul the opposition. What a game, the boys must be listening at training, because they certainly turned up on the weekend and come away with a convincing win. Our defence was good, with Dane, Rhys and Kailem doing a lot of work in the middle of the park. Our attack was a lot more structured, and it showed with our boys running in 7 tries to 3. Try scorers this week were Bryce and Rhys with 2 tries a piece, Dane and Levi scored two great tries and a special mention to Jake Paterson who has come along leaps and bounds and scored his first ever try. Our attack would never have been as penetrating without the great service from Lachlan from dummy half and Izach from first receiver, great game boys. A massive thank you to Blake Steep and Ethan Crossfield from the under 6's for playing up for us. Overall a great team win, well done boys.
Under 9’s Green
This week saw the boys play the Port Breakers at Stuart Park.
The team this week consisted of Hayden, Connor, Jackson, Riley, Peter, Rhys, Damien, Mitchie and Casey.
In a close game that could have gone any way, the boys stuck to their guns tackling, passing and playing as a team!
This ended up being the difference between the Eagles and the Breakers.
Our new try scoring machine “WOMBAT” (Pete) barged over the line for 2 well deserved tries. Conner and Casey also scored tries which was all due to the great backing up and passing from the rest of the team.
To our mighty midgets, Hayden and Jackson, they tackled and ran their hearts out as did our bigger boys Mitch, Damo, Roo and Riley.
I was so proud of all the boys. They played as a team, were not selfish and finally worked out why we do all that boring stuff at training.
As a result of this great team work Eagles 6 tries to Breakers 3.
Keep up the great work guys and look forward to doing more boring stuff at training!!

This weeks game against Camden Haven Eagles was a great game to watch well done to both teams. Big congratulations to our Man of the match Sam for showing his awesome tackling and try scoring skills. This weeks most improved was Izac and the coach’s award went to Bohdi. The team is really coming along with some excellent tackling by Hudson, Drew showing his offloading skills and our littlest Raider Tallin had some awesome runs. This week’s lucky try scorers Bohdi, Hudson, Johan and Sam. Well done team on a great game.

A chilly Mothers Day saw nine starters for a three man ambrose, first off were Glen, Riddo and Paul then Pepe, Bill and myself. Bringing up the rear were Andrew, Tony G and Phil. Phil was asked to do one thing, bring the wooden box, he forgot. Some good golf was played, once it warmed up. Tony G even managed to lose a ball, lodged in a tree. At the end of the day the winners were Pepe, Bill and myself. The only NTP was Paul on the 9th A Grade, Longdrive to Andrew A Grade and B Grade myself. Ladies Hole to Billy with a great shot.It would be great to actually have a comp and give away some vouchers [and a pink shirt] so let's see if we can get at least twelve players out to the course on Sunday, see ya there.

CH REDBACKS
U/8
The U/8 Reds played at home against the Port FC Pythons in an entertaining encounter. The boys went into the game without any subs and one player down so it was going to be a long tough game. After watching Port team warm up it looked like we had no chance as we untangled some of our boys from the goal net. In the first half the boys showed alot of skill with Mitchell McLaren showing some amazing ball skills dribbling around 4 of their players and the goalie to score the first points of the day. Two minutes later Eli Payne did exactly the same run and also slotted the ball into the top right hand corner, Joel Newman assisted in both these goals. Nick McLaren was as solid as a rock in defence and teamed up with George "Spaghetti Legs" Forster so that our goalie didnt catch sight of the ball in the first half. When the second half started we had a new striker in Jacob Worton and George was now in goals. Jacob showed that he is as confident on the pitch as a striker as well as a goalie, and had a few chances at goals. Mitchell controlled the midfield as he usually does which helped the Reds control the game and in the end the final score was 2-0 to Camden Haven, well done boys.
Under 10 Reds
This week we played Port United Koalas at home and it was the first week we had our full team and what a difference it made. The whole team played like champs. Alicia had her first game for the season and what a cracker it was, she certainly gave it her all. Harrison returned from injury and played excellent in both defence and attack, even scoring his first for the season. At half time things weren’t gong our way and we were down 4-1, but with some great rallying from the team we starting playing in our positions and turned the tables. Harry had a great return to form and scored a couple of goals as a reward. Brayden also scored a screamer and Lleyton played a great game in goals firstly and then in attack the 2nd half. Macklan, Ashton and Heath had our mid field covered in both attack and defence. Robbie kept them scoreless in goals for the 2nd half with help from some great defensive work from Ethan. We may have finished feeling like we had spaghetti legs but it was all worth it as we finished 5-4 up, so great effort guys once again.
Under 11 Reds
We had a great game against Lake Cathie this week. We won 5-0. Goals scored by Jye with 2, Ryan with 1 and Jackson with 2.
Zach had an excellent game allround covering the ball all over the field.
See you at training on Wednesday.
U/16 Girls
Played one short against a very competitive Kempsey Hornets side. The girls were made to work hard all night, however, managed to win the match convincingly 9-3. Our strikers Victoria and Laura were dynamic scoring I think 4 and a half goals each. One goal you’d expect to see in Premier League. I’m not going to explain you had to see it. Hannah played out of her skin even though as sick as ten men and Abbey played strongly and provided our strikers with some fine balls. Great effoert girls, especially Erica who was subjected to a great deal of sledging from behind the goals - good stuff girls - proud of all of you.
CH BOMBERS AFL
It was the Under 11 Bombers that took centre stage last weekend with a great performance against the Port and Wauchope combinations in Mid North Coast Junior AFL at Stuarts Park.
The youngest Bombers came out in front on the “hypothetical” scoreboard thanks to the “great teamwork” according to coach Scott Barton.
Barton praised the efforts of Layton Grey, Mitch Hunt, Sam Arrandale and Ben Coskerie and he also singled out Josh Arrandale who pulled on an opposition jersey and shone.
BEST PLAYERS: Layton Gray, Reece Bower, Hudson Macindoe, Mitch Hunt and Matt Prendergast; GOALS: Matt Prendergast, Josh Arrandale and Mitch Hunt (2), Joel Barton and Chaz Wiegold (1).
The Under 13 Bombers played two “NAB Cup” style games and managed one win and one loss in a much improved performance.
The Under 13 Bombers beat Wauchope 5.5 (35) to 4.2 (26 in game one, and in the second game came off behind against Port Whites, 1.2 (8) to 10.10 (70).
Trent Finch had a great day and earnt a call-up to the Under 15s after producing at least six smothers and an outstanding one against Mitch Dickson.
Max Griffis was a rock in the backline and coach Chris Finch estimated he saved at least six goals in the second game.
Tahlia Wiegold and Matt Coskerie also played good games with Coskerie bagging two impressive goals.
BEST PLAYERS: Trent Finch, Matt Coskerie, Nathan Hancock, Callum Vanderent and Trent Clarke; GOALS: Matt Coskerie 3, Max Griffis, Thomas Gammon, Jeremy Hanks (1).
The Under 15 Bombers produced an inspirational effort on the large Stuarts Park but were outpointed narrowly by a classy Port Whites outfit.
The Bombers went down 11.7 (73) to 7.14 (56) but it wasn’t so much inaccurate kicking as good pressure from the Port team.
In his Bomber debut, Josh Windsor did a tremendous job tagging Sam Jonasson, while Brad Smith gave everything he had to keep the Bombers in the contest.
Conor Haswell maintained his recent good form and the efforts of Owen Geard, Ari Vanderent and Cameron Bird couldn’t be faulted.
The Bombers send out get well messages to Hayden Clarke who suffered a recent ankle injury and James Coskerie who was knocked out in a sporting contest at the weekend.
BEST PLAYERS: Josh Windsor, Brad Smith, Cassie Wright, James Wright, Brice Hayward, Conor Haswell; GOALS: Owen Geard, Brad Smith, Peter Prendergast (2), Brice Hayward 1.
This weekend (Sunday) the Bombers are at home at Laurieton Oval with matches starting from 9.30am.
