A full programme of events is planned, starting with a Poet's Breakfast at the Kendall Services and Citizens Club at 8.30am, then an opening ceremony at noon followed by the unveiling of the Bullock Sculptures by Port Macquarie-Hastings Mayor, Peter Besseling.
Bullock Sculptures is a community project coordinated by the Kendall Heritage Society.
The Kendall community formulated the idea, came up with the design and organised the funding and construction of the sculptures making it a special unified community project.
Residents are encouraged to wander down to the Kendall Town Green to see the life-size steel silhouette bullock team, grab a sausage sandwich and listen to the pipe band as it pipes in the 1.27pm train from Sydney coming through to celebrate the centenary of the first train to arrive in Kendall before the bridge was built.
The theme of this year's Heritage Festival is 'Journeys'- a celebration of the journey taken as a community and what has made the Hastings region today an amazing tourist and heritage driven location.
Mayor Peter Besseling has encouraged local residents to take part in Heritage Festival events and to show pride in the region's rich heritage.
"Journeying from the beginning to the end of our rich past through the various landmarks, heritage-listed places and museums, will help tell an unforgettable story of the Hastings region," Cr Besseling said.
"What better way than to mark the Heritage Festival opening other than at an iconic location such as Kendall."
The festival will take place from 13 to 27 April and will feature heritage-themed events, activities, tours, performances, walks and more.
