The Blues were playing to win the Minor Premiership and the Dragons playing to stay in the top 5.
The first half kicked of in true Kendall form with Blayke Rogers breaking through the Dragons' defence and offloading the ball just short of the line for Tyler Smith to score the first points of the game in the first minute. Alex Pearce converted from the sideline.
Kendall supporters barely had time to catch their breath before Daniel Minns crossed the line as well for the Blues to break away for an early lead after another successful conversion from Pearce.
Long Flat crossed the line but the Blues hit back sending Brandon Plater down the sideline and over the try line. Pearce's conversion attempt was unsuccessful. But then, on the back of a Long Flat fumble, Tyler Smith took full advantage picking the ball up and scoring under the posts. Pearce's conversion was successful.
Five minutes later a high kick was sent over to Andrew Howe's corner and he crossed the line in the 34th minute. Pearce's conversion from opposite sideline was also successful.
Long Flat were lucky enough to send Jason Smith across the line just before half time to add to his celebration of his 100th game for Long Flat. Their conversion was successful and this saw the half time score Long Flat 12 - Kendall 28.
The Blues returned from the half time break to go into a back and forth battle with the Dragons and Blues came out the victors.
Dragons' Vance Byles crossing the line in the 53rd minute, followed by a successful conversion.
Long Flat took advantage of a Kendall player being in the sin bin and crossed the line again five minutes later and with a successful conversion the Dragons were only four points behind the Blues.
But the Blues had their eyes on the minor premiership and a very large and supportive crowd on the sideline. The boys dug deep and Luke White made his way through the Long Flat defence and crossed the line under the post to get the Blues back in the spirit. With Pearce off the field Jahbe Latham stepped up in his first game back to kick and his conversion was successful.
Moments later Kendall then took advantage of an overlap on the eastern side of the Long Flat defence in front of the large Kendall support crew and Blayke Rogers found his way across the line with only four minutes to go. Latham's conversion from the sideline was successful. The Blues held their ground with strong attack and defence in the final minutes holding the 24 - 40 lead till the final hooter.
"It's a credit to both players and coaching staff, who are very proud to take the minor premiership this year, Kendall hasn't been in the same position since 2002," said coach Chris Hanlon.
"The game itself was hard with Long Flat never lying down, but with 12 players for 20 minutes it was a gutsy win. We now look forward to the final with the first week off."
The Blues have come out with guns firing this year taking out the 9's comp and Bain Cup in the preseason and now adding the Minor Premiership to the count.
The Blues will return to the field on Saturday September 6 to take on one of the winners from this week's minor semi finals. All finals games will be played at Lank Bain stadium in Wauchope and supporters will be advised of the match time in next week's Courier.
