Small business, tourism and the like build our economy, but without the work of willing people we would not have many of the facilities we enjoy today. Volunteers can achieve anything.
Locally large-scale projects kicked off and completed by the community include Kendall pool and Rotary’s Towers of Strength lifeguard stations. Currently volunteers are planning, fundraising and rolling up their sleeves to build pathways connecting the Camden Haven.
Small-but-amazing arts and craft groups achieve big, beautiful things in our community for those in need. See PJ’s Happenings in the Haven column for information on small community groups you can join.
If you or your local group would like to learn more about being the best volunteers you can be, to really kick-start a journey that will be personally rewarding, then get in touch with Mid North Coast Volunteer Headquarters.
MNC Volunteer HQ have free ‘Be an effective Volunteer’ workshops in Laurieton once a month, commencing Tuesday June 14. Funded by Department of Social Services MNC Volunteer HQ provides volunteer information and referral to support a wide range of local not-for-profit groups with their volunteer needs.
Volunteer HQ hopes to connect and support Camden Haven residents towards volunteering in community.
“It can seem very daunting when you are new to volunteering,” said Beck Miles from MNC Volunteer HQ.
Workshops provide a relaxed environment without any obligation to make decisions about volunteering. All volunteer referrals are approved organisations and are suitable to anyone willing to give their time. Local not-for-profit who utilise volunteers are also welcome to come along and register on our volunteer referral database.
Camden Haven Community College is kindly supporting these workshops. Workshops will be held once a month (on the second Tuesday of each month) commencing at 9.30 – 11.30am. Bookings are essential as there are limited places available. To book into a workshop contact Beck on 6584 1914.
