Mick is a much-loved, reliable and eager bloke when it comes to helping out at local sporting events, especially for our junior golfers and touch footballers.
A hard-working network of people are stepping up to help the family. Grandparents are taking care of Erica and Mick’s children Taylah and Fletcher. Neighbours and friends are helping to get the kids to their sports and after school activities, even sending groceries and sponsoring Fletcher’s membership at the Kew Country Club so he can continue to excel on the golf course.
Erica, who is in Sydney to be by Mick’s side through the treatment, said the Murrays are overwhelmed.
“It’s pretty amazing. We are blessed to live where we do. We couldn’t get through this without everyone on our side. Nothing I say will ever be enough to express our appreciation.
“Our employers, Phil and Caroline Gaut at Camden Haven Medical and Glenn and Kobie Knight at the Laurieton Hotel have been amazing. The families and team at Allstars Studio have held events and been an incredible support.”
Mick faces an uphill battle. After chemo he will undergo a bypass operation on his heart after doctors discovered an abnormality. Then another operation to remove a cancerous lump in his abdomen.
“It’s a horrible situation and Mick has had to have stents put in to get him through the treatment until he can have the heart operation,” Erica said.
“Mick is always a pretty positive person and we’re sure the doctors wouldn’t put him through this unless there was a light at the end of the tunnel.”
Friends have also established a Facebook page, The Murray Family Page, to keep people up to date with fundraising events and initiatives. The latest ongoing fundraiser is to have a “virtual meal” with the Murrays. Instead of going out to dinner, cook a meal at home, post a photo to the page and donate the amount of money going out for a meal would have cost into the Murray’s account. If you would like to have a virtual meal with the Murrays, without going onto social media, donations can be made to the Murray Family, BSB 062 692 Account No. 25979047
