This competition saw both boys’ and girls’ teams compete for the right to continue to the next round to test their skills against the strongest of the Port Macquarie schools.
Students from Beechwood, Wauchope, Kendall, North Haven and Laurieton met to see which teams would continue in the competition.
Once again the Kendall fields proved to be the ideal venue as the grounds are well prepared and the facilities well presented. Thanks must go to Pat Kerr the ground manager. The weather held off too as rain had been forecast but failed to impact on the day.
The boys’ games proved to be very entertaining. In the first round North Haven overcame Laurieton while Wauchope were successful against Beechwood.
North Haven then continued on to defeat Kendall during extra time in a nail biting 8-7 win. North Haven was then able to convincingly overcome Wauchope and will now continue in the competition against the winner of the Port Macquarie schools rounds.
Again this year the girls demonstrated good skills and excellent team spirit. In the girls’ draw Wauchope defeated Beechwood whilst North Haven defeated Laurieton. Beechwood proved too strong for Kendall and Laurieton.
North Haven then went on to defeat the Wauchope girls and will now challenge the Port Macquarie schools.
After the knockout stages of the day, the defeated teams played additional games. In these games the Kendal l girls were defeated by Beechwood.
Beechwood also had a win against the Laurieton girls’ team. With the boys’ additional games, Kendall was able to put aside the Beechwood team, after Beechwood had a run against Laurieton.
A big thank you must go out to the referees from Camden Haven High School and Brett Anderson, their Physical Education teacher. Thank you too to the North Haven canteen staff who provided an excellent service on the day.
