There will be hundreds of greyhound owners and trainers across the Mid-North Coast who will walk around the Hastings River Greyhound Club on Saturday with their heads held high.
But trainer David Brasch knows one thing, the war has only just started.
“There will be a spring in everyone’s step out at Wauchope on Saturday, but we’ve won the battle not the war,” he said.
“They still want restricted racing and we feel that’s not the answer because they’re talking about putting exorbitant levies on every pup born.”
Brasch was one of many who let out a small cheer when Mr Baird sensationally overturned his original ban on Tuesday.
“When he announced the ban, my work stopped on that day and I was losing $1000 every day,” he said.
We’ve won the battle not the war.

“This isn’t over and we hope the industry continues the battle in court.”
When asked what it would mean for trainers on Saturday, Brasch said the decision gave them confidence.
“We all know the industry has had some bad eggs, but we’ve all been labelled as criminals,” he said.
“But those trainers and owners that will be out at Wauchope on Saturday are the backbone of the industry and they’ll feel vindicated they’ve done nothing wrong.”
If you walk around the track on Saturday you will get a feeling of relief and a confidence that trainers now know they have a future.
Racing starts at 1pm.
