The Hastings SES Driver-Reviver Centre is gearing up to assist drivers safely navigate the stretch of the Pacific Highway along the Mid-North Coast.

Coordinator Gordon Toms said the centre will be opening for 10 days, involving 61 shifts.

“We will be calling on some 169 volunteers,” he said.

“And we’re always looking for new volunteers. So if you know of someone who would like to help out please contact 6585 1525 for more information.

“The volunteers as well as the travelling public enjoy the excellent facilities and the chance of social interaction.

“Preparing a cup of tea or coffee and passing out a couple of biscuits is not very demanding – each shift runs for about three hours. Your shift can be arranged with a good friend, giving you time for a catch up there.”

Mr Toms said volunteers regularly report back that they enjoy the experience at the reviver centre.

Supplies have been arranged by National Co-ordinator A&R McCormac, the coordinator said.

“We are very grateful to Toll Transport for distribution to all sites throughout Australia. Thank you to suppliers Bushells Tea, Bushells Coffee, Arnotts Foundation and Sunshine Sugar.  Milk is supplied by Norco at no charge,” Mr Toms said.

“We’re looking forward to the long awaited completion of our section of the Highway. It’s looking very close and we’re excited.

“When travelling on the highway in particular, slow down in heavy traffic and remember to Stop, Rest and Revive, the National target is zero deaths on our roads and highways – a very worthy aim.”

The Hastings SES Driver-Reviver Centre school holiday shifts starts at 7am on Friday September 22 and continues until 6pm on Sunday September 24. It recommences at 7am on Friday September 29 until 6pm on Monday October 2. The final shift is 7am on Friday October 6 until 6pm on Sunday October 8.
