A spokesperson for Camden Heads Lifestyle Village said the proposed Woodglen Lifestyle Estate plan on Batar Creek Road has been modified to reduce the number of home sites by about 30 per cent, from 280 to 198.
The plan was modified in response to feedback received from the local community and Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
Residents David Adamson and Deb Bennett said while the number of home sites has been reduced, the overall model is incompatible with the village’s infrastructure, facilities and the overall community.
David said Kendall is an active community of young families but the proposed estate is designed for retirees.
Deb said many residents feel Kendall is also not an ideal location to build an estate for senior citizens, due to its lack of essential amenities such as a pharmacy and a medical practitioner.
Deb and David are concerned that the proposed estate will isolate the residents who live there from the rest of the village, as it will have its own facilities including a community bus, clubhouse, tennis court, swimming pool and bowling green.
They would like to see a development which is more inclusive and ties into the existing demographic.
A spokesperson for Camden Heads Lifestyle Village said the revised development would result in lower density or home numbers, fewer residents, larger home lot sizes, reduced traffic movements, as well as increased open space setbacks and native landscape screening.
“We have taken significant steps to address the key items raised in council’s internal assessment and submissions received during the public notification period, while maintaining a design that embraces Kendall’s village character,” she said.
Kendall residents are invited to attend a community information session regarding the proposed Woodglen Lifestyle Estate on Batar Creek Road on Thursday, May 17 from 4.30pm to 6.30pm at the Kendall Services Club.
The spokesperson said the Kendall community will benefit from increased support of local businesses, clubs, sporting and recreation facilities, volunteer groups, markets and community events.
“The revised proposal is considerably closer to the existing development consent for 140 lots and due to the nature of the lifestyle estate will involve fewer residents per lot, generating less traffic than a standard development,” she said.
“We’ll continue to work with council regarding the provision of necessary infrastructure to the property and Kendall generally.”
