Manufactured Home Estate development at Kendall

I'm biased I know but I have called Kendall my village for 26 years so you can imagine my surprise to read Kathrine Steele's letter in last week's Courier. I am stunned that she is 'absolutely stunned' by comments from those concerned by development plans in the Batar Creek area.

Sure houses and gardens here may not be top dollar, but it isn't Bellevue Hill - it's Kendall, a small village in some of the most beautiful country side in Australia. It beats having cars and trucks and busses hounding past your doors each day. That's one of the reasons we love it. And a manufactured housing estate with the accompanying traffic will certainly put paid to our peace and tranquility.

But behind the facade there is much happening which seems to have alluded Ms Steele. Does she not know of the Community Centre, market days, our community garden, yoga, dancing, choir, local musicians in monthly concerts, classical concerts, computer studies, garden club and so on - too many activities to mention. And there's the show ground precinct, the R.D.A., the footy - our favourite Kendall Blues, the boxing troupe, the pony club, the mens shed, the pottery group quite apart from our yearly show. There's the famous Op Shop, the CWA, the swimming pool and the wonderful famous tennis club which is still expanding. The place has filled so many expectations and offered so much to the inhabitants since I first came to live here.

I agree with her though that we do fear the changes that a MHE would bring to this unique community -  it would take the heart out of Kendall - I pray that will never happen.

Millicent Jones, Kendall.
