However I am appalled at the increase of pre-packaged fruit and vegetables in a various forms of plastic wrapping.
I am finding an ever-increasing array of pre-packaged fruit and vegetables including chopped mushrooms in a plastic container covered with plastic film and similar packaging for peeled potatoes.
Then there are packaged soup mix vegetables, mixed fruit packs, vegetables pre-pared for instant steaming amongst countless others. Are these necessary?
I appreciate there may be a higher profit margin for Woolworths in pre-packaging fruit and vegetables. Not only are these items sold frequently at a higher price per kilogram than the loose items, but also customers are likely to buy a greater quantity in the pack than they would of the loose items.
It does make a mockery of Woolworths’ claim that doing away with single use plastic bags is ‘to help reduce our impact on the environment...an important step we’re taking towards a greener future.’
Woolworths really needs to get serious about the impact of plastics on our environment and provide more substantial solutions rather than this token gesture.
