Council will upgrade and replace aging timber structures at eight bridge crossings.
This is set to provide safe resident access and support the transport needs of local business and industry.
Earlier this year, council director Alex Fisher said construction work on Dunbogan Bridge was set to start in November, once the detailed design process is complete.
Director Jeffery Sharp said just like the road network, the region’s bridges require constant attention as they are vital in supporting our growing community.
“Council maintains 121 bridges and more than 145 major culverts across the region, from those in the heart of Port Macquarie to smaller bridges that are important links to our rural villages and hinterland,” he said.
“The work we are undertaking this financial year adds to more than eight bridges that have received attention in the past couple of years.
“We are partnering with the State Government to fund the upgrades.”
Council’s 2018/19 Bridge Maintenance Program includes:
• Safety upgrades at Myhills Bridge and Ready Money Bridge on Upper Rollands Plains Road, Kindee Bridge at Kindee, Wallis Road Bridge at Pappinbarra and Cols Bridge on Stoney Creek Road.
• Replacement of timber bridges with new concrete structures at O’Neill’s Bridge on Batar Creek Rd and Hartys Creek Bridge on Comboyne Rd.
The safety upgrade to Cols Bridge on Stoney Creek Rd will commence in the coming weeks.
An interactive map of the bridge works has been developed and can be viewed on council’s website.
“The interactive bridge map will provide our community with a real-time snapshot of what we are up to right across our region,” Mr Sharp said.
“Similar maps will also be developed for road resealing, footpaths and stormwater works in the coming months.”
