Erica Walker, who is a registered nurse at a local GP practice, was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Erica underwent surgery in Sydney on November 6 to have some of the tumor removed, and has now returned to Port Macquarie where she is undergoing rehabilitation, radiation and chemotherapy.
Erica’s friend and local musician Emma Dykes has organised the fundraising event to support the Walker family.
The fundraiser is at Laurieton United Services Club from 3pm on Saturday, January 12.
Local artists including Angus Gill, Jo Hord and Emma Dykes will perform.
There will be an all stars dance, comedians, auctions, a raffle and lucky door prizes.
Tickets are available to purchase from Laurieton United Services Club. Adult tickets are $15 and children under 16-years-old are $5.
Before her diagnosis Erica was working full time and taking care of patients, as well as being a very busy mum and community member.
Erica and her husband Mick, who is a local police sergeant in Laurieton, have three children who live at home - Jack, Tom and Matilda.
The couple bought a farm about 10 years ago and had planned to renovate their house.
"Unfortunately this has not been able to happen for them yet and their son Jack says it is something his parents have talked about doing for years,” Emma said.
Emma is urging the community to help finance Erica’s treatment and to assist with house renovations.
“We appreciate any support offered in the way of donations of time, money, materials, skills and anything that we can auction or raffle.
“Let's do what we do best as a community and pull off something amazing for this family who are very much loved and valued in our town.”
