The summer has not delivered the best conditions for people to swim at the beach, with strong north easterly winds, which has brought in red weed.
Bonny Hills resident Amy Britt and her three children Liam, Stevie and Ava were at the North Haven River Baths on Friday, January 25.
Amy said she estimated they had been to the location about 25 times during the holidays.
She said this was unusual, as normally she would take them to the beach most days.
“Due to the red weed, at the moment it’s the best spot,” she said.
“It’s safe for the kids too.”
Jenny and Garry Baines live at the Blue Mountains but have been coming to the North Haven River Baths for over 40 years. They have a holiday house on Alfred Street.
They said the location brings back great memories for them.
Every year they celebrate their friend’s son’s birthday at the river.
“Thirty three years ago our friend was walking from our place at Alfred Street down to here (river baths) when her waters broke,” Garry said.
“They had to rush her to hospital.”
“Now every year, we celebrate her son’s birthday down by the water here at North Haven.”
