The Lake Cathie Amateur Fishing Club's Charity Fish Auction is set to lure a crowd on Sunday, June 16.

Lake Cathie Amateur Fishing Club president Melissa Donchi said she is looking forward to another successful community event to help raise money for two local volunteer organisations.

Club members will not be fishing at Lake Cathie and will instead go to Port Macquarie or down south to Laurieton and Harrington to seek their supply.

Recently a school excursion into the waterways at Lake Cathie and Lake Innes uncovered disturbing results with high salinity levels and dead fish painting a dire picture of a starving marine environment.

The Revive Lake Cathie group is planning a meeting with all stakeholders to help future-proof the lakes.

Melissa said even though Lake Cathie businesses are going through hard times, they have generously provided prize donations for the auction.

The auction demonstrates the strength of the community, as fishing clubs and locals from around the area unite to donate their weekend haul.

"You can expect to see about 250 fishos donate their weekend, often with no sleep, catching many species like bream, flathead, snapper, jewfish, blackfish, whiting, tailor, leather jacket and pearl perch," Melissa said.

The haul will be auctioned off at Lake Cathie Bowling Club from 1pm. Community members are invited to bid for a fresh feed of quality local fish.

Melissa said the Lake Cathie Amateur Fishing Club has run the auction for over 30 years.

All proceeds from the day are donated to the Lake Cathie Rural Fire Service and Camden Haven Marine Rescue.

The fishing event is open to anyone that would like to donate their catch and entry is free.

All fish must be at the weigh in area by 11am on Sunday, June 16 and the bidding begins at 1pm.

Melissa said the event is a great family day and prizes are donated by many businesses located in the Camden Haven and Port Macquarie-Hastings.

There will be a jumping castle for the children, sausage sizzle, cupcake stall, raffles and entertainment.

"Our auctioneer, Chris Perry will be entertaining you with his fun and energetic skills," Melissa said.
