Records for Nash Wilkes and Bailey Whitton at NSW Country Championships

Two Camden Haven High School students have excelled in the pool at the open NSW Country Championships over the weekend July 5-7.

Nash Wilkes is a distance education student at Camden Haven High School and blitzed the length of the pool for his breaststroke events in Sydney.

The 17-year-old came away with three gold medals and three NSW Country Championship records.

Nash broke the 100 metre record for breaststroke, which had previously stood strong for 21 years. His time for the 100 metre race was 1.01.95.

Meanwhile Nash broke the record for the 50 metre breaststroke, with a time of 28.31. For the 200 metre race he made a dash for the finish with a time of 2.16.57.

Nash's dad Darren said he couldn't be prouder of his son.

"The times Nash pulled out in the breaststroke events were simply insane," he said.

"These times put him amongst the fastest 17-year-olds ever in the history of Australian breaststroke swimmers."

Nash competed in six events and broke all six records for North Coast Swimming.

He picked up a silver medal in the 200m individual medley and a bronze in 100m individual medley.

Darren said Nash is definitely on target for Melbourne's Australian All Schools event at the end of this month.

"Nash also achieved the qualifying times for open Nationals in October," he said.

Thirteen-year-old Bailey Whitton also achieved highly at the event, breaking two North Coast Swimming records for the 100m individual medley and 50m butterfly.

Bailey won the bronze medal for the 100m freestyle with a time of 58.06.

For the 100m breaststroke Bailey achieved a time of 1.18.73. In the 50 metre freestyle he achieved a time of 26.40. In the 100m butterfly Bailey notched up a time of 1.06.64. In the 100m backstroke Bailey achieved a time of 1.11.34. In the 50m butterfly Bailey achieved 28.98. In the 100m individual medley Bailey did a time of 1.07.03.
