Bringing their A game: Camden Haven Hockey Club's Catherine Carroll and Thunder Hockey Club's Louise Oirbans.

Catherine Carroll says she wouldn't have tried out in the state team trials if it hadn't been for her teammate Louise Oirbans.

Both women have been selected to play in the Over 35's state team at nationals from September 26.

"It's a massive honour to represent NSW," Catherine said.

"I'm stoked to be selected as I didn't think I'd be up to scratch."

Catherine is captain of the Camden Haven Hockey Club's premier women's team, while Louise plays for the Thunder Hockey Club.

Catherine has been playing hockey for the last three seasons after a break from the sport.

Louise encouraged Catherine to try out for state team selection, after they played together last season.

"She was the push for me," Catherine said.

"I probably wouldn't have tried out otherwise."

The women are working together to ensure they are in the best form possible for nationals.

"It's a hard core training program," Catherine said.

"We have to do a lot of cardio and resistance training, and send our times to our coach and manager to keep us accountable."

Catherine said it can be a challenge to balance training with her family and work commitments.

"I'm lucky I have an incredibly supportive husband," she said.

Through the week Catherine is also involved in a volleyball team, a multi sports team and goes to the gym.

"I enjoy bat and ball games as it's something to chase," she said.

"I like the competitive atmosphere of team sports."

Lake Cathie resident and Port City Hockey Club player Kim Maurer has been selected in the Over 60's state team after a 30 year break from the sport. Lyn Dockrill (All Stars) will shadow for the Over 60's state team.

Nationals are on from Thursday, September 26 until Saturday, October 5 at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre.
