Events librarian Leanne Wright will play host to three of her favourite authors of her favourite genre, Australian crime/ thriller fiction.
Those authors are Jaye Ford, Wendy James and Caroline Overington.
Jaye Ford is the internationally-selling author of five chilling suspense novels.
Her first thriller Beyond Fear won two Davitt Awards for Australian women crime writers and was the highest selling debut crime novel in Australia in 2011.
Wendy James is the author of eight novels, including the bestselling The Mistake and The Golden Child, which was shortlisted for the 2017 Ned Kelly Award for Crime.
Caroline Overington is a two-time winner of the Walkley Award for Investigative Journalism and the author of nine crime thrillers.
Mrs Wright said Australian crime/thriller fiction is her favourite genre and so she thought it would be an interesting discussion.
"I thought three of them together would be really interesting," she said.
"It is a different way of looking at an author visit and all three were available so I grabbed them."
Mrs Wright said she was keen to get three females on the panel.
"I heard a podcast with an Australian crime author and she was saying that women basically live crime every day," she said.
"We think 'Where do we park our car?', 'Are we in a dark area of the car park?', when we are at home we might lock an extra door and so forth.
"So having so many women authors come through, they write it differently."
Mrs Wright expects the discussion to be well attended.
"The true crime section in our library is really popular," she said.
"We feel that if we read about it, understand it, we actually protects ourselves," she hypothesized.
'The Art of Crime: In conversation with Australian Thriller authors' is on Saturday July 20 at 1pm. It is a free event but you need to RSVP by phoning 6581 8755 or emailing portlib@mnclibrary.org.au.
