The school’s 2019 captains are Mia Windred, Will Jackson, Hugh Rackley and Xanthia Hughes.
The students have already started their year 12 schooling in term four and said they are looking forward to taking on their captain duties.
In her address to the school, Mia let students know that she is approachable and will endeavour to highlight any of their concerns to the school’s staff.
Will’s speech attracted attention with his use of alliteration and rhymes.
Hugh said he was dared by a friend to run for the captain position. Hi ginger hair featured prominently in his address to the school.
“It was about how people with ginger hair are often outcasts and there should be no more discrimination,” he said.
The students’ first duty as captains involves giving speeches at Remembrance Day services at the school and in Laurieton.
Mia and Will will attend the service at Laurie Memorial Park on Sunday, November 11. Hugh and Xanthia will address the school’s community.
The students don’t want to change the school in any way as they believe it is in pretty good shape.
Outside of school, Will said the schools to schools pathway is something which he would really like to be completed.
All the student captains are friends and are looking forward to working together.
