Station commander Les King said the unit was called to the incident near Peach Grove, Laurieton at about 1.40pm after being notified by a triple zero emergency call.
When firefighters arrived on the scene they found residents using buckets of water in an attempt to put the fire out.
There were reports from bystanders that a group of young children were sighted near the location before the fire started.
Mr King said it’s been a hard start to the new year for firefighters.
